Need for Accessibility works in Greystones Train Station

Local Facilities, Local News

At a recent meeting of Greystones Town Council, I highlighted the importance of Greystones Train Station becoming more accessible for those with mobility impairments.

I submitted a motion on behalf of Greystones Active Retirement calling for Wicklow County Council to lobby the Irish Rail Accessibility User Group (who prioritise accessibility work) to radically improve Greystones Train Station for the mobility impaired.

It is essential that a lift be installed on both platforms in the station to ensure that it is accessible for everyone. While Irish Rail currently take steps to make the station as accessible as possible for the elderly, wheelchair users, and those with buggies, without lifts this station simply can’t cater for the needs of all the people of Greystones. I have been told by elderly residents of Greystones that they cannot use the train services because they are unable to ascend the steps of the bridge. In this day and age that is simply not good enough. Our station is in a very small minority of Dart Stations with no lifts. Most stations have automatic lifts on each platform ensuring ease of use for all customers.

I am calling on Irish Rail to prioritise Greystones Train Station and commence an immediate upgrade of the station.
